Influence of Stone Dust on Compaction & Strenght Properties of Soil When Mixed With Juit Fiber

Abstract: Over the past few years a lot of research has been done on stabilization of soil using conventional stabilizers like rice husk ash, lime etc. Studies have been made for stabilization of soil using Stone Dust and Jute Fibre individually but limited research has been carried out using the combination of S.D and Jute Fibre. Limited research has been carried on the effect of S.D and Jute Fibre on Shear Strength Test of clayey and expansive soil. The effects of stabilization on, consolidation properties, shear strength, splitting tensile strength, stiffness and hydraulic conductivity of expansive soil have not been studied by most of the researchers. A research was conducted using various percentages of stone dust (10%, 20%, 30% and 40%) and Jute Fibre (0.25%, 0.50%, 0.75% and 1.00%). Firstly tests were done on stone dust to fix the optimum percentage and further work was carried out jute fibre with variable percentages and fix percentage of Stone dust.

Tensile Structures using Solar Flexible Panels

Abstract: Renewable and sustainable energy generation technologies have been in the forefront due to concerns related to environment and fossil fuel costs. Photovoltaics technology have attracted an increasing interest in the past decade and have been shown as a feasible renewable power generation technology.[1] Thin film flexible photovoltaics are paving the way to lowcostelectricity. Solar cells are deposited over flexible substrate via means of high throughput technologies to have funds for lightweight solar modules that can be includedinto or on diverse surfaces. [3] Due to the increasing demands of the electricity it is very important to make the buildings energy efficient, which uses less electricity and mainly runs on the renewable source of energy. Invention of the solar flexible panels have increasingly affected the power generation of the tensile structures, making it energy efficient. Combination of both the thin film of solar andthe structural fabric of tensile structure will result in an efficient way of the power generation. This paper will focus on all the properties of the solar flexible panels and how it is useful for energy generation, the different ways and technologies for using the panels in a tensile structure. The paper will focus on whether the panels can be used as a replacement for structural fabric inatensile structure.

Study on the Quality Characteristics of Slub Yarn Knitted Fabrics

Abstract: Coir (Cocos nucifera) is a natural fiber known for its high lignin content which can be effectively made use of provided they are given suitable treatment. Notable disadvantage of natural fiber is its polarity, as they are exposed to diverse pH, salinity, moisture and microbial attack it makes them incompatible with hydrophobic matrix. This paper focuses on modification of coir fiber in improving the durability of fiber and thereby improving the strength characteristics of weak thonnakal soil by suitable sustainable material and fiber. The main idea behind the usage of industrial products is not only conserve the natural resources but a way of implementing two suitable materials to create a ‘synergy’ within the ecosystem. With this view, Flyash was used as a sustainable material. The present work involves modification of coir fiber using chemical treatment called quick precipitation method where nanoparticles of Ca(OH)2 are impregnated into the pores and surface of the fiber. To study the effectiveness upon modification both treated and untreated coir fiber were subjected to alkaline and neutral pH conditions for alternate wetting and drying cycles and its durability was assessed by measuring individual fiber tensile load test. Both treated and untreated coir fiber were added in different percentage from 0.5 to 1.5% to the soil-flyash mix to study the strength improvement by conducting unconfined compressive test. The modified coir fiber was found to withstand adverse durability conditions much better than the untreated coir fiber. Nanomodification of fibers enhanced the interfacial adhesion by better interaction with the soil flyash matrix and the tensile strength also improved. The strength parameter of the soil was also improved upon the addition of modified coir fiber.
